Tugas orang tua pada zaman dimana Teknnologi Informasi berkembang sangat pesat menjadi semakin berat. Karena tugas kita sebagai orang tua akan bertambah dengan menghadapi dampak negatif yang dihasilkan seiring
berkembangnya Teknologi Informasi. Anak anak, remaja saaat ini cenderung tidak bisa lepas dengan Teknologi Informasi, contohnya smartphone. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian Asosiasi Penyedia jasa Internet Indonesia (APJII,
2015), disimpulkan Usia mayoritas pengguna internet di Indonesia adalah berusia 18-25 tahun, yaitu sebesar hampir setengah dari total jumlah pengguna internet di Indonesia (49%). Dampak negatif dari berkembangnya Teknologi
Informasi adalah meningkatnya jumlah kekerasan seksual, akses konten porno oleh anak-anak dibawah umur dan masalah-masalah lainnya timbul akibat maraknya akses internet kepada media-media yang sangat bebas akhirakhir ini.
Hal ini tentu saja menjadi perhatian bagi para orang tua. Perlu dilakukan semacam penyadaran dan sosialisasi kepada para orang tua tentang bagaimana melakukan pengontrolan akses media online kepada para orang tua. Sosialisasi ini terdiri dari bagaimana menggunakan aplikasi atau tools yang ada di internet untuk dapat memonitor segala aktivitas anak yang menggunakan internet baik di desktop maupun di media komunikasi lainnya. Kegiatan ini dilakukan di
Laboratorium Komputer Fakultas Ilmu Komputer Universitas Mercu Buana dengan peserta lebih dari 20 orang dimana didalamnya ada orang tua yang memiliki anak pada kisaran usia SD dan SMP. Aplikasi yang digunakan untuk parental control adalah aplikasi tidak berbayar yaitu K-9 Parental Control dan aplikasi KAKATU. Dengan adanya kegiatan sosialisasi ini, para orang tua akan menjadi lebih sadar, lebih waspada terhadap dampak negatif dari smartphone yang dilakukan oleh anak-anak mereka.
