Manusia adalah entitas yang memerlukan interaksi sosial dalam kehidupannya. Dengan perkembangan zaman dan teknologi, seringkali muncul sikap individualisme, tetapi pada hakikatnya, manusia tetap menjalin interaksi dengan sekitarnya. Gedung serbaguna merujuk pada ruang-ruang luas yang terdapat di sekolah atau bangunan umum lainnya. Bangunan dengan multi fungsi adalah elemen vital dari sebuah rumah atau area pemukiman. Bangunan tersebut memiliki beragam kegunaan; bisa sebagai ruang rapat, tempat untuk perayaan atau upacara, tempat ibadah, galeri seni, lapangan olahraga indoor, atau sekadar sebagai tempat berkumpul. Pulau Lancang Besar yang berada di Wilayah Administratif Kepulauan Seribu memiliki berbagai ruang publik tertutup yang memiliki potensi untuk dioptimalkan. Ruang-ruang tersebut dapat dimanfaatkan bukan hanya sebagai ruang terbuka, tetapi juga sebagai ruang untuk bermain, pendidikan, berkumpul, berbagi ide, berolahraga, menggelar acara, berdagang, rekreasi, dan lainnya. Semakin variatif kegiatan yang dapat diakomodasi di ruang publik tertutup, kualitas dari ruang tersebut akan meningkat. Optimalisasi ini dapat dicapai dengan mengintegrasikan nilai edukatif dan sosialisasi mengenai manfaat memiliki Gedung Serbaguna dengan transfer teknologi.
